Curtain falls on ‘Ganga Jamuna Cultural Festival’ today

Three plays, two mime shows to be staged on the closing day



The curtain will fall on the seventh edition of ‘Ganga Jamuna Cultural Festival 2018’ today. Three plays will be staged on the concluding day of 11-day event at three separate venues of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.
Theatre Art Unit will stage its play titled ‘Morshokam’ at the National Theatre Hall while Vision Theatre will stage ‘Noishovoj’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall and Rangapith will stage its play ‘Mohesh’ at Studio Theatre Hall of BSA. All the plays will be brought to the stage at 7pm simultaneously.  
Among the three plays, ‘Morshokam’, the 19th production of Theatre Art Unit, is written by Mahin Eka and directed by Rokeya Rafiq Baby. The play has already become a subject of the discussion as the writer and director are the mother and daughter. Director Rokeya Rafiq informed that the play is a collage of three separate parallel Acts. The cast of the play includes Mehmud Siddique, Nuruzzaman Babu, Mahfuz Sumon, SR Sampad, Sajal Chowdhury, Selim Mehbub, Swadhin Shah, Riaz Hossain, Jaman, Mohammad Bari, Chandan Reza, Ferdous Amin, Piar Mohammad, Rakib, Zayed Hossain, Majidul Mithu, Sonia Nasrin, Suchi Chowdhury, Sumon Akand, Akash Modak, Abir Saem and Farhana Akter.
On the other hand, Mime Art, one of the most popular pantomime troupes in the country, will stage its second mime production titled ‘Jeman Karmo Teman Phol’ today evening on the open premises of BSA, as a part of the festival. The show, 14-part production that spans an hour and a quarter, is written and directed by Nithor Mahboob, and brings forward errors and discrepancies of daily life through humour. The cast of the play includes Nithor Mahboob, Faysal, Tutul, Shuvo, Amaresh, Sudhangshu, Apurba, Sabuj and Munia. Hendri has designed the lighting for the production, while the director himself worked on costume, makeup, props and stage design.
Besides staging plays, the closing ceremony will also feature mime show ‘Mobile Birombona’ by Mukta Mancha Nirbak Dal, recitation by Milon Kanti Dey, dance performance by Spandan and solo music rendition.  
However, the curtain rose on the seventh edition of ‘Ganga-Jamuna Cultural Festival 2018’ on October 5 at the National Theatre Main Hall of BSA. The event that features as many as 30 stage plays, 9 street plays, 18 music troupes, 18 recitation troupes, 18 dance troupes and two mime troupes, is scheduled to conclude today.
