High Court orders removal of illegal structures in city’s posh areas

The High Court has ordered removal of all unauthorised structures in Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara areas in the capital within 10 months.

A division bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Jahirul Haque passed the order on Wednesday, following 233 writ petitions filed by owners of many structures.

The High Court also directed Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) to demolish the structures if owners fail to comply with its order within the stipulated time.

Earlier, in 2015, the Rajuk had issued a notice requiring demolition of illegal structures in the city’s posh areas Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara.

This prompted many aggrieved structure owners to file writ petitions with the High Court challenging legality of the Rajuk decision.
