Organizer of prohibited HK autonomy gathering captured

The originator of a prohibited Hong Kong autonomy gathering has been captured in a strike where hostile weapons and explosives were discovered, a senior police source revealed to AFP Friday, as the city reels from long stretches of against government challenges.

In an announcement, police said eight human seven men and one lady were captured at a modern structure on Thursday evening in the region of Sha Tin on charges of ownership of a hostile weapon and ownership of explosives without a permit.

The announcement did not distinguish the people captured. Yet, a senior police source disclosed to AFP that autonomy lobbyist Andy Chan was among those kept.

"Andy Chan was captured inside a reason with (a) gas bomb seized," the source stated, asking not to be recognized. Chan's freedom party-the Hong Kong National Party-was prohibited a year ago on the grounds it represented a national security danger, the principal such boycott since 1997.
