Andreescu touches base with far-fetched Indian Wells triumph

Bianca Andreescu's vision progressed toward becoming reality in the California desert, where the Canadian 18-year-old's Cinderella raced to a first WTA title put her among the tip top of ladies' tennis.

"Insane," Andreescu herself called it, after coarse 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 triumph more than three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber made her the main trump card to win the lofty Indian Wells WTA title.

"Bianca Andreescu simply left a mark on the world. Congrats," Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted not long after the milestone triumph.

Andreescu is the competition's most youthful champ since Serena Williams in 1999 and simply the fourth unseeded player to lift the trophy after Williams, a returning Kim Clijsters in 2005 and Japan's Naomi Osaka a year ago.

Reminded that Osaka's achievement 2018 win was quickly trailed by two Grand Slam titles and an ascent to No. 1 on the planet, Andreescu was inquired as to whether she found that motivational.
