I wanted to play without pressure and enjoy: Soumya
Soumya Sarkar blitzed passed his second one day international hundred to demolish Zimbabwe in the third and final match of the series.
It happened all of a sudden for Soumya Sarkar, packing things up in the middle of the NCL match to head towards the national team. but the Bangladesh opener made use of the opportunity in the best possible way, entertained the full house crowd at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium with a glittering hundred, has made the life of selectors hard to come up with a choice for the series to come.
"When they called me to join the team I was telling myself 'ok an opportunity arrive let's see how it can be utilized'.
I just wanted to play without any pressure and enjoy my game. My thought process was like 'okay if I do badly the worst that can happen is that one more failure will be added in my list'," this was what Soumya said.
Bangladesh batting coach Neil McKenzie is also pleased to witness Soumya geared up.
Pouring praises for the left hander, McKenzie said, "A guy like Soumya has so much happening for him. He is a great striker of the ball, he is tall and imposing on the opposition. It is down to some confidence.'
"He got a hundred against Zimbabwe in the warm-up game. He got some runs in the domestic games. It is all about confidence and trusting your game plans. I think they [others] are allowed to be themselves in this environment. They have to bat like Soumya does. You can't bat like anyone else. You have to trust your own style," the coach said.
