The High Court has ordered government and private agencies to provide a list of women workers who returned home after being tortured in Saudi Arabia.
The HC’s order came on Tuesday following a petition filed by a lawyer in public interest last week.
The court also ordered the expatriates’ welfare secretary, foreign secretary, director general of Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training, the chairman of the Wage Earners Welfare Board, and the president and the secretary of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies or BAIRA to provide the list within seven days.
The list will be made of the total number of women and men migrants of Bangladesh, number of mentally, physically and sexually tortured migrants, and number of migrants who retuned home willingly or with government assistance, according to the writ petition.
Justice Watch Foundation Executive Director Mahfuzur Rahman Milon filed the petition.
