Tensions are brewing in the Argentina team camp. The Albiceleste are in tatters following their 3-0 defeat in the World Cup match against Croatia and previously there were rumours flying around that the players had asked for Sampaoli to be sacked. Argentina denied such claims as false following those reports. However, According to Argentina sports channel TyC, Sampaoli has now been told by the Argentina FA president that he does not hold any more decision-making power.
The relationship between the technical staff and the players have completely broken down ahead of their must-win match against Nigeria where their qualification for the round of 16 is at stake.
Following a meeting with the players and the technical staff, AFA president Claudio Tapia himself informed Sampaoli that the coach has no power over the group.
Signs that disagreements between players and the coach was brewing under the surface became evident when an angry and frustrated Sergio Aguero, asked to comment on Sampaoli’s remark that ‘players failed to adapt to his tactics’, had said ‘Let him say what he wants’.
