“Phagun Hawa” goes on floors

Tauquir Ahmed, who has been on a bit of a roll these last few years as a director, is all systems go for his next venture. “Phagun Hawa”, a film based on the history of our Language Movement, is beginning principal photography today in a small suburb of Khulna.
The film, which is adapted from short story “Bou Kotha Kou” by Tito Rahman, also announced its full cast on Thursday. Members of the main cast include Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Siam Ahmed, Abul Hayat, Shahidul Alam Shachchu, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Afroza Banu, Shazu Khadem, Rownak Hasan, Shahadat Hossain, and reputed Indian actor Yashpal Sharma (who has starred in Bollywood films like “Lagaan” and “Hazaron Khwaishein Aisi”).
This is Tauquir's third film in a row (after “Oggatonama” and “Haldaa”) that has cast Fazlur Rahman Babu, which is not much of a surprise considering Babu's powerful performance in both. Tisha is also reuniting with the director after playing the female lead in “Haldaa”.
Siam is slated to play the male lead opposite Tisha, as a young man named Nasir.
The director departed Dhaka a day earlier to begin filming, but Tisha is expected to arrive on March 11, and begin filming her scenes from March 12. Tisha plays the role of Dipti, a shy, small town girl who finds her strength during the political turmoil of the time.
“It has been a long-time dream for me to make a film on the Language Movement,” Tauquir Ahmed told The Daily Star. “That dream is now becoming a reality.”
Regarding working with Tauquir Ahmed once again, Tisha stated, “Not only is he a talented director, he is also extremely well-read. There are not many films on the Language Movement, and being part of a film that deals with a central part of our history is a great honour for me.”
