Prangone Mor stages ‘Shesher Kobita’ at Shilpakala today




Prangone Mor, one of the most popular theatre troupes of the country, will stage its much-acclaimed production ‘Shesher Kobita’ today at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.
Prangone Mor’s ‘Shesher Kobita’–the sixth production of the troupe, based on the Rabindranath Tagore’s novel with the same title, is directed by Nuna Afroz and scripted by Ananta Hira. Widely termed a landmark in the realm of romantic Bangla literature, ‘Shesher Kobita’ is mainly a much popular fiction by Tagore.
The play revolves around Amit, an Oxford-return barrister, who is playful, bombastic, and erudite and has an immense aura to others. He, by fate, meets Labanya, a traditional Bangalee lady with the sense of sarcasm, through a car accident. Instantly attracted to each other, their relationship develops over an exchange of letters that contain poems. However, with the passage of time, they have to face troubles and their faith in each other is tested as the story progresses.
The play does not cover the entire novel rather based on a few chapters, but it is kept as original as possible. Foyez Jahir is the set designer and Toufiq Azim Rabin handles the lighting, while music has been done by Ramiz Razu.
The probable cast of the play includes Nuna Afroz, Ananta Hira, Ramiz Razu, Mithila, Chaitaly, Sarwar Alam Saikat and Mainul Tawhid, among others.
