Gold prices have gone up just two weeks after they were revised up last month.
The latest revision causes the price of 1 Bhori (11.664 gram) of 22-carat gold to rise by Tk 1,400, which means it will cost now Tk 50,738.
Similar price hikes have also occurred in the markets for gold of inferior qualities.
The new prices will be effective from Wednesday, according to the Bangladesh Jewellers Samiti.
The prices have been increased as demand is outstripping supply, said the association’s General Secretary Dilip Kumar Agarwala.
“The wedding season is going on, which increased the local demand for gold. In comparison, supply is low. Moreover, prices in the international market are high now. We have decided to raise prices after considering the situation,” he told bdnews24.com.
Weddings in Bangladesh are usually held in winter. Traders had previously raised the prices of gold on Nov 26 at the start of winter.
It was revised up once again two weeks later on Dec 25.
New gold prices (per gram):
22-carat – Tk 4,350
21-carat – Tk 4,150
18-carat – Tk 3,700
Traditional gold – Tk 2,275
