Jaya wins West Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Award






Celebrated Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan has won yet another award from India After winning the prestigious ‘Zee Cine Awards’ recently.

The actress won the ‘West Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Award’ on Sunday as the best actress for her film ‘Bisorjon’, an Indian Bengali film directed by Kaushik Ganguly.

Noted Indian actor Prosenjit Chatterjee handed over the award to Jaya at a gala event held at the Priya Cinema Hall in Kolkata. West Bengal Film Journalists’ Association, was Organised the award ceremony.  Jaya-starrer ‘Bisorjon’ also won awards in three more categories.

Winning such an award outside the country made Jaya immensely happy and she shared her joy, “An award is not only a recognition to me, it also gives me encouragement and inspiration to do more good works.”

Jaya Ahsan is currently working in a new Indian Bengali film titled ‘Ek Je Chhilo Raja’ under the direction of Srijit Mukherjee.
Joya acted in few more films in Kolkata before, such as ‘Aborto’ directed by Arindam Sil, ‘Ekti Bangali Bhooter Goppo’ by Indranil Roy Chowdhury, ‘Rajkahini’ directed by Srijit Mukherji, ‘Eagoler Chokh’ directed by Arindam Sil and ‘Aami Joy Chatterjee’ directed by Manoj Michigan.

Jaya Ahsan is a Bangladeshi actress and model who works in Bangladeshi and Indian Bengali films. She received three Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress for her roles in Guerrilla (2011), Chorabali (2012) and Zero Degree (2015).

She first appeared on television when she performed in teledrama Panchami. She modeled for a calendar which caught the eye of Afzal Hossain, who later offered her work on a promotional advertisement of the soft drink Coca-Cola.

Having started her career as a model in the late 1990s, Jaya has since worked in numerous television dramas and serials. Jaya worked in Giashuddin Selim’s Shongshoy and later in Anechy Shurjer Hashi. Directors, among others, opine that one of the reasons behind her success is that she has always been selective about the plot and the character of the plays she was offered.

Jaya’s reputation as an actress was founded on the notable roles she played in Kuhok, Labonyo Probha, Horton-er Bibi, Shonkhobash, Hatkura and many more.

On the big screen, Jaya became more famous in her later age when she started working in movies as a leading actress where other actresses became less favourite in the movie at the similar age. She had a special appearance in a film named Bachelor in 2004 which was directed by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki. Jaya’s first film was Nurul Alam Atik’s debut film Dubshatar, English title: In Too Deep (2010).
