Nurjahan invited to folksong conference in India

To introduce the young generation to the legendary king of folk, the late Abdul Alim, a conference on his songs will be held in the city of Guwahati in the Indian state of Assam on January 19 and 20.
Also, for the first time, popular singer and daughter of Abdul Alim, Nurjahan Alim, will appear in the folksong conference.
Abdul Alim was born at Talibpur village in Murshidabad district of the Indian state of West Bengal. He sang many popular songs, such as, ‘Saat Bhai Champa’, ‘Sob Sakhire Par Korite’, ‘Premer Mora Jole Dube Na’, ‘Holudia Pakhi’, and ‘Ei Je Dunia Kisero Lagiya’, among others. He died on September 5, 1974, at the then PG Hospital (now Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital) in Dhaka.
Nurjahan confirmed to DhakaLive that the folksong conference will be inaugurated on January 19, and she will perform on the very next day by paying tribute to her father.
She said: “I would like to express my gratitude to the organising committee for giving me the opportunity to perform my father's songs in front of the audience. My father was born in Murshidabad, and his songs never really got popular outside it. I'll participate in the conference so that I can increase the number of his listeners. I hope that the conference will be successful.”
Also, today is Nurjahan’s birthday and she will not do any stage show or any other programme. She will spend the day with her family members.
