Lucky Akhand remembered thru memories and music

Late popular signer Lucky Akhand, one of the most gifted musicians to have ever come in the Bangla music arena, was remembered in a befitting manner through a commemorative programme at the National Music and Dance Centre Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital on Saturday evening.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), in association with Bangladesh Musical Bands Association (BAMBA) and Shilpir Pashe Foundation, organised the programme titled ‘Citizens’ Tribute’ to pay homage to singer-composer-lyricist-music director Lucky Akhand.
The programme was attended by Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor and Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Haque, BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, Professor Nizam Uddin Ahmed, lyricist Kawsar Ahmed Chowdhury and BAMBA President Hamim Ahmed.
Besides, prominent artistes from the country’s music arena were also present at the event. Among them, Lucky Akhand’s childhood friend, Ferdous Wahid rendered Lucky Akhand’s popular song ‘Age Jodi Jantam’. In addition, singers who attended the programme performed two chorus songs ‘Abar Elo Je Sondhya’ and ‘Ei Neel Monihar’.
During the programme, a biographical video of Lucky Akhand and three songs written and composed by him were presented. Moreover, a video of the last song by Lucky Akhand, which was composed by him while being treated at Paleolithic Care Centre, was also screened at the programme.
To note, after suffering from lung cancer for over a year, Lucky Akhand breathed his last at the age of 61 at his Armanitola residence in the capital on April 21, 2017.  Akhand started his career with self-titled solo album ‘Lucky Akhand’ in 1984 under the banner of Sargam. Some of the notable songs of Lucky are ‘Agey Jodi Jantam’, ‘Amay Dekona’, ‘Mamonia’, ‘Ei Neel Monihar’ and ‘Hridoy Amar’.
