Tareen's thoughts on Eid
“I like to be in Dhaka on most Eid vacations and spend time with family. This year was fun packed too, surrounded by all my nieces, nephews, and other relatives."
"The excitement surrounding the Eid break has remained a constant with me throughout the years. When I was younger and more carefree, Eid was celebrated on the same scale as any other holiday. However, now, as a busy artiste all year round, Eid is the only respite from my busy life.”
“Apart from indulging myself with delicious food and getting together with my sisters, we all gather around the TV set to watch plays that are on air during the festival. I haven't done many assignments this time, but I have been enjoying the work of my peers.”
“My only wish this year was that people returned to their day to day lives with with ease. Many opted to travel outside the city to spend time with loved ones, and I wished them a safe journey home.”
Army deployment in polls depends on consensus: EC Sec
Election Commission Secretary Mohammad Abdullah has said the army will be deployed in the next parliamentary polls if there is a consensus among political parties.
Abdullah also said if all the political parties reach a consensus for bringing back the armed forces under the definition of law enforcement agencies in the Representation of People Order (RPO), the EC will consider it positively.
The RPO was amended before the 2001 national election empowering the members of army, air force and navy deployed in elections to arrest anybody without warrant within a 400-yard radius of a polling station for the violation of electoral laws on the polling day.
Turning to EC's dialogue with different stakeholders, including registered political parties, he said the dialogue is likely to begin on July 30 next amid talks with civil society members.
Noting that the EC Secretary is now preparing the dialogue agenda, he said its Secretariat has a previous list of civil society members, which will be updated before the dialogue.
He said only political parties registered with the EC will be invited to join the dialogue.
On July 16 next, the Commission will finalise seven plans of 11th national election roadmap and publish a book on the roadmap. And the books will be provided to all political parties and participants of the dialogues, Abdullah said.
Replying to a question, he said the desire of the incumbent commission headed by KM Nurul Huda is that they will not retreat in taking any step for protecting the Commission's image. "The Commission has also the power and legal authority to do so."
About the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies, the EC Secretary said the constituencies will be re-demarcated considering applications the EC would receive over it. The Commission will also hear both petitioners and defendants before redrawing constituencies.
"To my knowledge, no general election was held without the presence of army in the past. The army had been deployed in the field, no matter what was their authority and type of engagement...
If there's a consensus among all parties, the Election Commission will honour it," he told journalists at his office in the city, reports UNB.Abdullah also said if all the political parties reach a consensus for bringing back the armed forces under the definition of law enforcement agencies in the Representation of People Order (RPO), the EC will consider it positively.
The RPO was amended before the 2001 national election empowering the members of army, air force and navy deployed in elections to arrest anybody without warrant within a 400-yard radius of a polling station for the violation of electoral laws on the polling day.
But the Awami League-led government, assuming office in 2009, amended the RPO, dropping the words armed forces from the definition of law enforcement agencies. So, the armed forces lost the authority to arrest without warrant.

Karisma Kapoor turns a cover girl
Karisma Kapoor is a charmer. We have seen her in a number of films, doing a variety of characters in the past.
But although Karisma is far from films now, she is just beautiful as always and she has proved this as she is the face of the latest edition of a magazine cover.
Karisma Kapoor graced the cover of Femina Wedding Times magazine and nailed it. Karisma was one of the top actors of her time. From dance and comedy to drama, we have seen her doing it all. She is still considered to be one of the prettiest ladies in the industry. She took to her official Instagram account and shared this magazine cover of hers and wrote, “The beauty blowout 💕 @feminaweddingtimes
beautyspecial#beautifulateveryage#cover#july2017.” The 43-year-old actor is seen wearing a sexy blush pink dress that has a ruffled bodice and combined with her messy hair bun, she looks like a dream.
The Raja Hindustani actor is simply dazzling on this new magazine cover. The cover title of the magazine reads “The Beauty Blowout” and we completely agree.
Karisma Kapoor is said to have a special appearance in Judwaa 2 along with Salman Khan, but there is no confirmation about it. According to a leading daily, it was Salman who suggested that Karisma should be a part of the movie and the actress is on board for the project.
Judwaa 2 will have the famous song of Salman and Karisma, Tan Tana Tan and thus we expect that she can be a part of it. Earlier, a source close to the film’s set informed, “Salman will be part of the chartbuster song Tan Tana Tan Tan Tan Tara along with Varun Dhawan. It will be like the old Judwaa and new Judwaa together. And then Karisma will join them to shake a leg.”
We just need to wait for it but for now, we are celebrating this beautiful cover of Karisma Kapoor!
Slow walk may point to dementia: Study
Walking slowly may be an indicator of dementia, say scientists who found that older adults who experience a slowing gait also suffered shrinkage of a part of the brain linked with memory and spatial orientation. Researchers determined that participants with a slowing gait and cognitive decline also experienced shrinkage of their right hippocampus, an area of the brain important to both memory and spatial orientation.
It was the only area of the brain where the researchers found a shrinking volume to be related to both gait slowing and cognitive impairment.
They also found gait slowing over an extended period of time to be a stronger predictor of cognitive decline than simply slowing at a single time point, which is what other, similar research evaluated.
All the participants slowed over time, but those who slowed by 0.1 seconds more per year than their peers were 47 per cent more likely to develop cognitive impairment. The finding held even when the researchers took into account slowing due to muscle weakness, knee pain and diseases, including diabetes, heart disease and hypertension. “A fraction of a second is subtle, but over 14 years, or even less, you would notice,” said Andrea Russo, assistant professor at University of Pittsburgh.
Researchers assessed about 175 older adults aged between 70 and 79. At the beginning of the study, the participants were all in good mental health and had normal brain scans.
Multiple times over 14 years, the participants walked an 18-foot stretch of hallway at what they deemed a normal walking pace while a research assistant timed them. At the conclusion of the study, researchers tested the participants again for their mental acuity and received brain scans. The study was published in the journal Neurology.
